Minifornia: An Epic Road Trip Experience

Minifornia: An Epic Road Trip Experience

After our first trip to California for the re-opening of Highway 1, many of you have shared their experiences and asked for tips on logistics, on where to go, what to do and what the best time of the year is. Truth is, California is so big that there is something different to do all year long, whether you are into surfing, hiking, wine, sightseeing or even skiing.

So, as a road trip seems to be on so many people’s bucket list, we have decided to partner once again with Visit California and Discover LA on an exciting project called ‘Minifornia: An Epic Road Trip Experience’, which will bring a bit of California to Waterloo Station in London from 5–7 March, 7am – 9pm.

Those that also follow us on Instagram may have already seen a little sneak-peek, but for those who haven’t Minifornia is a 20-by-20-foot model of California which will help people immerse themselves in all the amazing experiences that you can do and sights you can see on an epic Californian road trip. How? Well, through the model of course but also through videos on large motion screens and virtual reality headsets that can be experienced in Waterloo Station. People wearing the headsets will have the opportunity to accompany their road trip experience with a selection of California driving inspired songs, from Bruce Springsteen and Iggy Pop, to Prince and Rhianna!

If that is not enough for you to visit the model or to stop by during your commute, when you visit Minifornia in Waterloo you will be in with the chance to win your own epic trip to California, with a prize package of return flights to Los Angeles with British Airways and car hire with Avis.

A bit more info on Minifornia

It was incredible for us to be able to see a preview of Minifornia in Los Angeles with the wonderful team that put all this together with such short notice. Also was fun to see our own road trip on the model, as we recognised the Joshua Tree National Park, Palm Springs and many sights in LA.

Designed and built by an A-list team of Hollywood set builders, the model includes hand-carved replicas of California’s jaw-dropping scenery and magnificent natural structures, such as El Capitan in Yosemite National Park, the snow-covered slopes of Mammoth Mountain and the mid-century modern architecture of Palm Springs.

People will also recognise 10 iconic sites from Los Angeles as the cars go past the Hollywood sign, Griffith Observatory and even miniature surfers catching waves in Venice Beach. Passers-by will be transported to California through an arresting, tactile and novel combination of old world craftmanship with the latest in today’s tech, as the cars drive around the roads without the use of tracks.

Hopefully, Minifornia will give you that extra incentive to visit this beautiful part of the world soon, it is definitely worth it and to be honest we are already planning our next adventure!
