Fancy an afternoon tea with some cake in one of the most iconic skyscrapers in London? Then you should definitely try the LÁNG!
What is the LÁNG?
LÁNG, meaning “pathway” in Chinese, is the Shangri-La Hotel’s artisan deli on the ground floor. Here you can enjoy a selection of the hotels renowned signature cakes, fresh coffee, chocolates and pastries, as well as freshly prepared seasonal hampers, classic savouries and sandwiches for eat-in or take-away.
Accessible via its own entrance, the lofty and relaxed space features warm wood tones, glass displays brimming with delectable treats and a playful, purpose-made teacup chandelier. Filled with natural daylight from the double-height windows, LÁNG is designed to complement and link the contemporary Oriental feel of London’s first high-rise luxury hotel.
After being welcomed by the manager Richard, we decided to sit inside as the atmosphere was very elegant and charming. We ordered the Hotel’s white apricot welcome tea, which is served to each guest of the Shangri-La Hotel at their arrival, and two of their signature cakes.
We went for the Yuzu Cheesecake, made of yuzu sponge, salted biscuit and orange compote, and the Chocolate Temptation, made of rich chocolate sponge, red fruit tea, raspberry compote and soft chocolate cream.
As we were really satisfied with these beautiful and tasty cakes, we decided to also order a Matcha and passion fruit eclair and a Strawberry and chocolate eclair.
Our view
We have always found it difficult to find a nice place for an afternoon tea when we are out in the City of London or if we are visiting The Shard or the Tower Bridge. If you feel the same, this artisan deli should help solve your problems. The cakes and the service are excellent, and the tea is really exquisite. They have indoor and outdoor seating and their products come directly from the Borough Market, which is just across the road.
So if you ever decide to visit The Shard, to buy some quality food at the Borough Market or go for a walk down the Tower Bridge, you must absolutely not forget to stop by the LÁNG. You will not be disappointed!
